New Mexico Tech, and FEMA along with ATF, the Miami Dade Police Department and Miami Dade Schools Police department particpated in training for the following classes during the week of July 21-25, 2014:

Weapons of Mass Destruction Training:

  • Prevention of and Response to Suicide Bombing Incidents (Mobile Performance course)
  • Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings (Mobile Performance course)

The training was geared toward awareness and preparedness to assist first responders in dealing with the possibility of future attacks and also to specify the role that police officers play as the first responders to scenes like that of the Boston Marathon Bombing. The training is the precursor to the more advanced training offered at New Mexico Tech, where the institution actually gives police officers and other first responders a hands on training with explosives, and other simulated weapons used by terrorists world wide.

The training M-DSPD officers receive will no doubt help our agency to remain ahead of the different obstacles that we will face in regards to acts of domestic terrorism  and similar threats. The agency keeps committed to continue the training level necessary for our officers to succeed in the daily protection of the children, staff, and citizens of Miami Dade county. To this effort we stand committed.
