Commander Edwin López has been with the Miami-Dade school district for over 14 years. He has served as a Physical Education teacher, Police Officer, Police Sergeant and Police Commander. He has held numerous assignments throughout his law enforcement career, including School Resource Officer, Special Response Team member, Bike Patrol, Internal Affairs Unit, Backgrounds Unit, and Region Commander. He has also served as a Detached Investigator for the Miami Dade County State Attorney’s Office Gang Strike Force. Commander López is also a professor at Miami Dade College in the criminal justice and education programs. He holds both a bachelors and master’s degree from Florida International University. Commander López oversees South Operations, consisting of over 100 schools and over 35 sworn personnel.
