This event is part of Ms. Hantman’s yearlong safety campaign to bring awareness to the dangers of risky driving behaviors, including text messaging. “I am encouraging all drivers in the community, particularly OUf student drivers, to visit www.itcanwaiLcom to take the pledge to not text while driving ,” said Ms. Hantman. “Motorists who send text messages while driving not only jeopardize their own safety, but also the safety of passengers, pedestrians, and other drivers.”

Although great strides have been made nationwide to reduce distracted driving habits, text messaging remains a national epidemic resulting in thousands of fatalities on our roadways. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that texting while driving increases a risk of collision by 23 percent.
