Chief Ivan E. Silva is a 29-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department and has served in a wide array of positions. He began his career as a School Resource Officer serving at West Miami Middle School, Paul W. Bell Middle School, Miami Killian Senior High School, and G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2007 and was assigned to Central Operations. As Sergeant, he also served as the agency Shift Commander and was later designated as the Police Information Officer where he reported directly to the Chief of Police and handled community affairs. In 2013, he was promoted to Commander and was subsequently assigned to the Administrative Division and later to Central Operations where he supervised day-to-day operations of the personnel under his command. After being promoted to the rank of Major in 2019, he was assigned to the Strategic Planning Division where he oversaw the management of the Commission for the Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation process and ensured compliance with the “Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act”. Chief Silva has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University and is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Command Officers.
